Creating a healthy mindset is an investment in your overall well-being

Psychotherapy, medication management and second-opinion consultation — for children, adolescents and adults, in person or by telepsych.

Service 01

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is a general term for treating mental health problems by talking with a psychiatrist, psychologist or other mental health provider. Over these sessions you build an understanding of your emotions, your thoughts, and the patterns in how you behave.

CBT

Cognitive behavioral therapy

An evidence-based approach that works well for many disorders, particularly depression and anxiety. Our thoughts, feelings and behaviors are intimately connected — change the thought pattern and the feeling shifts with it.

DBT

Dialectical behavioral therapy

An evolution of CBT, built on four skills and useful across a wide range of life challenges.

Brief

Brief psychotherapy

You identify one specific goal to work on. We work together as a team to problem solve and meet the specified goal over a period of weeks to a few months.

Intuitive

Intuitive psychotherapy

Intuition is a gift bestowed upon everyone, whether we utilize it or not. This approach helps you reach your own inner wisdom to solve problems and find balance and harmony in your life.

Service 02

Medication management

Medication management involves an evidence-based approach to prescribing which balances the safety, effectiveness, and simplicity of treatments.

Dr. Howell is skilled in complicated psychopharmacology and thoughtful about medication management, applying the same evidence-based method across a range of psychiatric conditions in both children and adults. The approach is deliberately conservative: the smallest effective regimen, reviewed regularly, explained in full.

Medication management can stand on its own in a 30-minute appointment, or be combined with psychotherapy in a single longer session.

Service 03

Consultation & second opinions

Mental health consultation as conducted by Dr. Howell provides a second opinion regarding psychiatric diagnoses. These services can help caregivers, patients and family members feel confident about their treatment course.

Dr. Howell developed specialised expertise at Johns Hopkins in treating severe mental illness in youth, particularly early onset psychosis. Her consultation experience includes work with the inpatient and day hospital teams at Johns Hopkins Hospital, as well as the Early Intervention Clinic at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

In her private practice she performs second opinion evaluations for families across the United States. The objective is a clear, accurate diagnosis and treatment recommendations that families and their existing care providers can act on.
